10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fall Family Fun at Erickson's Petting Zoo, 11890 Hope Road SE, Osakis. Pumpkin patch, corn maze, pony rides, tractor/wagon ride, horse/wagon ride, playground, decorated yard. Admission is $8.50 per person, $6.50 for children 2 to 5. (Every weekend through Halloween.)

Sunday, October 21

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Redeemer Lutheran Church annual Turkey Dinner. This year's proceeds will go to Jason Sommars' Eagle Scout project. He is making one of the church's bathrooms handicapped accessible.

Wednesday, October 24

5:30 to 7 p.m. First Presbyterian Church of Osakis invites everyone to its Friendship Table Meal. This month's meal will be spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and dessert. Free-will donations will be accepted.

Thursday, October 25

11:45 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Bookmobile stops — 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Carol Radjl daycare in Nelson; 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at St. Agnes School; 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. at Community Memorial Home; 2:45 to 4 p.m. at Ed Pollard Community Center.

Monday, October 29

Noon to 6 p.m. Osakis Community Red Cross Blood Drive at the Osakis VFW Post 7902, 701 E. 8th Ave. Please call Steve and Sharon at 320-859-4151 for more information or to schedule an appointments. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Thursday, November 22

9 a.m. Sixth annual Turkey Dash for Diabetes 5K Run/Walk. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at O-Town Tavern in Osakis. Kids' half-mile run starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Silent auction with handmade quilt, door prizes. Pre-register by Oct. 29 — $30 for adults (includes shirt); $20 for children 12 and younger (5K) and $15 for children 12 and younger (half-mile). Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
