Student test scores are awesome, says superintendent
"We did awesome!" beamed Osakis Superintendent Randy Bergquist at the Monday, Sept. 10 regular meeting of the Osakis School Board.
Bergquist was reporting on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) test scores for the 2018 year.
"Osakis was above the state average in reading, science and math," Bergquist reported. "I am really proud of the teachers and staff and the kids."
Bergquist also reported Osakis's graduation rate is high above the state average. The Osakis graduation rate is 94 percent, compared to the Minnesota graduation rate of 82.7 percent.
MCA tests are administered each year in reading to grades 3-8 and 10th grade. Math MCAs are taken by grades 3, 8 and 11. Science MCAs are administered to grades 5 and 8, and in high school for those students enrolled in life science or biology classes.
Of 847 elementary schools in Minnesota, Osakis was ranked 163rd, based on the composite MCA test scores.
By comparison, Alexandria elementary was ranked 123; Minnewaska 352, Melrose 377, Sauk Centre 468, and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle was ranked 726 of 847 schools.
Osakis Public Elementary ranked better than 80.8 percent of Minnesota elementary schools, with an average test score of 77.02 percent. The math score in Osakis was 72 percent, and reading proficiency was 62 percent.
Osakis Secondary School ranked 85 of 494 Minnesota secondary schools, with an average MCA test score of 79.6 percent.
