June 13, 1918
War stamp drive. The War Savings Stamp drive for Osakis village was on full force yesterday and will finish today. The allotment for the village is $17,800 and F. G. Harris who has charge of the drive locally says it will be over-subscribed.
Todd County to draft 92 men. Todd County will be called upon to furnish 92 men from Class 1 in the next draft about June 25. Douglas County's quota is 62 men.
Carlos Avery visits Osakis. Carlos Avery, state game and fish commissioner, was a guest at the Idlewilde Friday afternoon. Mr. Avery expressed himself as very much pleased with his first visit to beautiful Lake Osakis and said that everything he observed in connection with the lake, its fishing and surroundings, fully met his expectations.

Moonlight Madness set for June 25. The merchants of Osakis will hold Moonlight Madness on Tuesday evening, June 25. This promotion proved very popular in Osakis last year. On this day the business places will close at their regular closing time of 5:30 p.m. The stores will reopen at 7:30 p.m and remain open until 11:30 p.m. Merchants will be garbed in nightgowns, pajamas, etc. and will be offering some hot bargains.
Nursing home staff and residents honored. The Osakis Nursing Home staff were honored on its 5th anniversary on Sunday, June 9. Each were presented with five-year service pins.
Weather is fair again. After an uncomfortably hot period of weather last week, we are now enjoying very mild and pleasant days. We had temperatures in the upper 90s last week, but on Tuesday of this week the mercury dropped into the 70s with lows in the 40s. It's good to have our fair weather back again.

Bank earns 15th Five-Star rating. The First National Bank of Osakis has been awarded Bauer Financial Reports' Five-Star rating for the 15th consecutive quarter. First National has earned this nationally recognized award for superior safety, strength and performance.
Swedish choir sings at Fahlun. The Hensjo Church choir will perform in concert at the Fahlun Lutheran Church on June 23. A free-will offering will be taken. Hemsjo Church is located in Alingas, a small village on the Swedish coast, about 25 miles from Gothenberg, the second largest city in Sweden.
Osakis Festival to celebrate 25 years. The city of Osakis will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Osakis Festival June 18-27, 1993. Come join the fun and help us celebrate! There's something here for all to enjoy!

Timber business eyes Osakis. The City of Osakis' decision to improve its Industrial Park is paying off. A new business may soon be up and running at the par, Blue Ox Timber Frames, which specializes in design and fabrication of heavy timber structures, mostly residential.
Sports records are made to be broken. Osakis' Andrew Nack set a new high mark in the discus at Osakis High School with his performance at the Section 6A track and field meet on May 29. With a distance of 147'6", Nack broke the long-standing record held by Bob Geele, whose discus record at Osakis High School was set at 144'10.5" in 1949.
Bear necessities in Osakis. Three hundred pounds of fur and force paid Kathy and Harold Withers of Osakis a visit during Memorial Day. The Withers suspect that this black bear came for dinner and took a nap at their farm, located on Highway 27 west of Osakis, near Crooked Willow. Other residents around the area, especially near Smith Lake, have also reported sightings of the bear.
