Letter: School seeks input on facilities

To the editor:

As you may be aware, the Osakis Public School District recently started an assessment process to determine how well our current facilities meet the needs of our students, staff, and community. This process will include gathering input from our stakeholders, examining the condition of our existing facilities, and assessing demographics and student enrollment trends.

Our focus as a district remains our mission, "to engage and support all students in building a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and character." There continues to be tremendous ongoing support regarding our schools: Our students continue to excel, our extra-curricular activities have excellent participation, and our community continues to embrace the importance of doing what's best to educate our students. Our facilities play a large role in academic excellence, and as our district continues to evolve, facilities planning is needed now more than ever. Teachers teach differently today than they did 10 or 20 years ago, and providing the right kind of educational environment has shown to improve student achievement.

As we move through our assessment, we will seek feedback from all our stakeholders to help shape our facilities vision. We want to learn more about what is working well and what could be improved.

I'll continue to keep you updated as we will seek the voices of you, our community, for your input. Please watch for additional details!

In the meantime, please reach out to me at 320-859-2191 or rbergquist@osakis.k12.mn.us if you have any questions or concerns.
